Climate Conversations is a new biennial project that invites Northern Rivers artists to collaborate with community and explore ways we can adapt, reorganise, and evolve in the face of climate change through the arts.

The theme for the second Climate Conversations is ‘Rising' exploring the growing consciousness and urgency to meet climate challenges.

Amidst soaring temperatures, swelling oceans, and escalating natural disasters, Earth's fragile equilibrium hangs in the balance. Rising reflects the need to embrace our role as environmental stewards, and unite in collective action.

Northern Rivers Artists are invited to respond to the theme of ‘Rising’ and propose a collaborative community focused project and exhibition. The successful artist or artists will receive a fee of $5,000 to develop new work, additional funds up to $2,000 for public programs, and a one-month exhibition at Lone Goat Gallery in 2025.

Artists from outside the region may apply if they partner with a Northern Rivers based artist. Artists are encouraged to ensure the project idea is focused on community engagement and generating conversations with community through art.

OBJECTIVES

Climate Conversations aims to engage and create space for the Northern Rivers community to discuss and reflect on ideas relating to sustainability, resilience, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Artists are well placed to engage communities in innovative ways, change behaviours and reimagine new futures.

Through the delivery of initiatives and education programs, Climate Conversations hopes to foster long term behaviour change, while supporting and empowering our community to adapt to and mitigate our impact on climate change.

Climate Conversations is a biennial creative initiative between Lone Goat Gallery and Byron Shire Council.
