OPENING NIGHT: 5.30 – 7.30PM FRIDAY 21 FEBRUARY
Direction Forward presents a series of artworks which transform found objects and discarded materials into considered, contemporary assemblages.
At the heart of Dean’s process lies the act of reclamation. Taking an architectural approach to his work, Dean sources found objects and materials from across the Northern Rivers and beyond. With Direction Forward, he has created a collection of pieces which explore scale, volume, form, texture and colour in surprising, engaging ways.
Through experimentation and exploration, objects and materials undergo a metamorphosis. Dean modifies their physical form but also adapts and infuses them with the associated memories and essences they carry. This transformative act bridges the gap between three-dimensional and two-dimensional realms, embodying a narrative that is deeply personal and yet universally resonant.
BIO
Dean Stewart is an artist based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales.
With a background as an interior designer and visual merchandiser, Dean brings his understanding of three-dimensional space as well as an innate sense of materials, colour and texture to his art practice.
Dean’s work investigates how history and memory are embedded within specific objects and materials, invoking the profound simplicity of everyday human experiences — the moments he believes are most authentic.
Dean has exhibited in Sydney, Northern NSW and Queensland and his work can be found in private collections in Lennox Head, Ballina, Mullumbimby, Sydney and the United Kingdom.
