Isobel Kingswell is an emerging artist living and working in Meanjin (Brisbane). Influenced by her University studies in Architecture, her painting practice considers connections between people and the places they occupy or share.
In 2019 she commenced a painting residency at Estudio Nomada, Barcelona and came home to complete her Masters of Visual Art at Griffith University in 2022. Since then she has exhibited in both group and solo shows, with a focus on the natural and built environment.
Her current work is a way of safe keeping memories of place, embracing scenes where human building and nature intersect joyfully. She recreates these images in minimally abstracted, patterned and colourful compositions to unite those distinct categories.
Merge is an exhibition of oil paintings based on Isobel’s study of place and memory and how we belong in both.
