“...Form does not differ from emptiness, emptiness does not differ from form. That which is form is emptiness, that which is emptiness, form. The same is true of feelings, perceptions, impulses, consciousness.” From The Heart Sutra of Gautam Buddha.
Inspired by the recent catastrophic flooding in the Northern Rivers, 'Body of the Void' explores the omnipotent power of clouds through the medium of oil painting. Clouds being nature’s ultimate expression of the emptiness of form. The moody clouds and the pouring rains mirror my grief around the climate crisis. Painting the clouds and rain has been a cathartic process for me in dealing with the trauma of the double flooding events in my community. The process of painting the storms was a way of externalising the disaster and finding the majestic beauty that exists in the weather. I aim to illuminate the spiritual and emotional reality in the sky and land and to inspire an emotional connection with nature as an essential part of the human experience.
