Isobel Kingswell in her Brisbane studio.

OPENING NIGHT: 6 – 8PM SATURDAY 30 NOVEMBER 2024

Brisbane artist Isobel Kingswell imagines the natural environment as an overlapping, intersecting and forceful phenomenon in her landscape works. Isobel employs exaggerated colour, pattern and visible delight to her semi abstracted landscape paintings to include the viewer in the all-encompassing scene, reminding them that they are not separate but vitally connected to the natural world.

Merge presents a series of oil painted works that examine the structure of the natural world rather than being anchored to specific geographical locations. Here the environment is not a separate entity that one can step back and observe, manipulate, add or subtract to in isolated instances. All parts, human and non human,  are in conversation, dependent on and vital for one another.

Isobel places the viewer directly into the current of her patterned landscapes to highlight the complexity of our natural surroundings and our interdependent relationship with one another.

BIO

Isobel Kingswell is an emerging artist living and working in Meanjin (Brisbane). Influenced by her University studies in Architecture, her painting practice considers connections between people and the places they occupy or share.

In 2019 she commenced a painting residency at Estudio Nomada, Barcelona and came home to complete her Masters of Visual Art at Griffith University in 2022. Since then she has exhibited in both group and solo shows, with a focus on the natural and built environment.
