Artist Talk by Dave Sparkes
2pm Sunday 12 February 2017
at Lone Goat Gallery

Lone Goat Gallery is proud to present an artist talk by Dave Sparkes.

Dave’s first solo exhibition of watercolours, ILLUMINATION, is currently at the Lone Goat Gallery from February 3 -15 2017.

For over 20 years Dave has been an editorial surf photographer operating at the peak of his field, working as a senior staff photographer for Tracks Magazine, Surfing World and US Surfer.

Dave is an acknowledged master in the difficult and highly specialised field of water photography long before digital equipment and autofocus eased the challenges of this dangerous art. Dave’s clients amongst many have included Rip Curl and their ongoing dream-surf-safari The Search, travelling by boat to the globes most exotic locations to document the world’s most elite surfers in perfect and dangerous waves.

Perhaps it is no accident that a photographer so in tune with the nature of water and light should also be expert at painting in watercolour – a genre uniquely suited to the capture of light - but in fact such is a dual skill is not common.

Alongside this unique combination of talents, Dave is also a writer of great sensitivity. Existential observations accompany his watercolours in this exhibition and often Dave’s photography. He has also published an ambitious book, THE WAVE: Tales from the Impact Zone, featuring many of the surfing worlds greats, and a foreword by Tom Curren.

Dave’s talk promises to transport us across the globes’ most desired waves captured on camera, to the intimate Australian coastal scenes of his watercolours.

This event is now concluded. 2017.
