Lee McConnell is an ARIA nominated visual artist, director & animator, nationally known for his work with Dune Rats, Jack River and Mambo.
Hailing from the seaside town of Forster and now Byron-based, Lee takes inspiration from the strangeness of everyday reality and the surreal side of life.
Lee moved to Sydney to work for Mambo as an artist, then as Art Director, before leaving to work as a freelance visual artist for festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Sydney City Limits, Big Pineapple, Electric Lady, and as Creative Director of Grow Your Own Festival.
His aesthetic has become widely recognisable, notably through collaborations with acclaimed artists Dune Rats; directing all artistic media from music videos (6 Pack), to stage installations and animations to the album package itself. Lee has designed all of Jack River’s single and album packages, notably her latest collaboration with Peking Duk; ‘Sugar'.
Lee is the 2019 Splendour in the Grass Artist in Residence, which will see him create the event’s artwork and bring it to life, running a masterclass and working his magic on installations across the festival site.
