Born and educated in Ballarat Victoria. I then lived on the coast with my husband Wayne and two children Merinda and Jarrah for most of my life. At the end of 2014 we made a big shift to Mullumbimby NSW.
My interest in art started when i was a very young child being the daughter of an artist, I was always surrounded by paints and brushes. I studied art in school but have not had any formal training. As a child l would walk the beaches collecting shells, driftwood and even dried seaweed I’d take home and make an art piece from that day’s collection. l still have one of those pieces on the wall of my studio.
My love of collecting grew over the years to what l do today. l never throw anything away. The materials l use are all recycled or reclaimed goods. The mediums range from bamboo blinds, chairs and bed heads, rusted metal, nails and screws, driftwood, shells, rope from the beach, matches, paper, cardboard, plastics and electrical wire.
My art takes form from the materials l have collected and the sorting gives me the inspiration to create. Turning something old into something new and reducing landfill gives me great pleasure. From piles of discarded junk into pieces of art. l visit op shops, tip shops, friend’s old sheds for discarded goods. My art has included wooden figures, crazy dogs, stone carving to art you can hang on the wall. I make furniture out of second-hand and timber. Boats out of wood, rusted metal, nails and screws.
My art has sold through small galleries, retail stores, cafes and restaurants along the surf coast of Victoria for many years. An article was written about my art in the Surf Coast Magazine. An interview and small film for Korduroy TV. I had a small gallery in Lorne for a short time and at my home for many years. l have won awards and prizes in many art shows including a local calendar competition, Barwon Heads art show, Artspot 2007, 2008, 2013 and 2014, Lorne Lions art show in 2007, 1st prize in 2008 and 2nd prize in 2014 at Birraguarra.
I received a grant from the Surf Coast Shire to do some commissioned work with two other artists. I was a special guest artist at some local schools. Teaching kids how to recycle and make art. My work has been held in many private collections around the world. From Australia wide to New York, Japan, Philippines and Canada.
