If you’ve ever read Tracks (and who hasn’t?), chances are you’ve read, or seen Dave Sparkes iconic words and images. Now he’s showing his hauntingly beautiful landscape paintings at his first solo show at Byron Bay’s Lone Goat Gallery.
Rumours that Tracks senior contributor Dave Sparkes had quit surf photography after 25 years of sustained excellence and taken up painting and beret wearing have been greatly exaggerated.
Dave is intrigued by sunlight, shadow, and reflections, often painting from the “contra jour” (into the light) viewpoint and strives to create an atmospheric mood in his paintings. His painting is a hybrid of impressionism and realism.
