OPENING NIGHT: 6-8PM FRIDAY 17 JANUARY
In physics, String Theory states that all particles are connected by vibrating strings or membranes, weaving an invisible web of connection throughout the universe. These connections are also energetic cords that bind you to others. Community is woven together in a network of giving and receiving and our days and nights are governed by the rhythm of light and darkness. These are the things that have inspired this collection of textile artworks.
Liv Enqvist works with hand embroidery, with textiles collected on her travels from places like markets in Phuket, silk weavers in Lyon, vintage shops in Stockholm and warehouses in Hackney and Sydney. Textiles are the things that surrounds us from the moment we are born until our last breath and something intimate and close to our bodies.
From textile to text: having a deep love for words and language, the text based artworks are something that is experienced in the mind of the viewer, words that relate to a feeling inside and therefore experienced beyond time and place. Words are vibrations and hold power and the interface between our inner and outer worlds and the body is the translator. Also going back to Liv’s Nordic ancestry and the Norse mythology where the three deities Wyrd, Verdandi and Skuld (the Norns) spins the threads of fate, and we might ask ourselves what things make up the warp and weft of our lives?
